Ecclesiastes_Chapter 1

The words of a preacher, son of David, who reigned in Jerusalem.

The preacher said, The void of the void, the void of the void. Everything is void.

What benefit does all the labor of a person, that is, their labor under the sun?

Generation after generation, generation after generation. But the earth will forever endure.

When the sun rises and sets, hurry back to where you came from.

The wind blows south and then turns north, constantly spinning and returning to the original path.

Rivers flow into the sea, but the sea is dissatisfied. Where does the river flow and where does it return.

Everything is boring. (Or that all things are full of weariness) Man cannot say it all. Seeing, not feeling full, hearing, not hearing enough.

What already exists will come again in the future. What has already been done must be done later. There is nothing new under the sunlight.

How can anyone point to and say that this is new. Unexpectedly, in our previous generations, it had already existed.

The past generation is not remembered by anyone, and the future generation is not remembered by those who come after it.

I, the preacher, was king of Israel in Jerusalem.

I am devoted to seeking and investigating all that is done under heaven with wisdom, and I know that the labor that God has put into practice for mankind is extremely heavy.

I see that all that is done under the sun is vanity, chasing after wind.

What is bent cannot be straightened, and what is missing cannot be counted.

I murmured in my heart, saying, I have gained great wisdom, surpassing all the people who were before me in Jerusalem. And I have experienced more wisdom and knowledge in my heart.

I am also focused on understanding wisdom, arrogance, and ignorance. I know this is also catching the wind.

Because the more wisdom there is, the more worries there are. He who increases knowledge increases sorrow.
