In the ninth year of King Zedekiah of Judah, in the tenth month, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon led a whole army to besiege Jerusalem.

On the ninth day of the fourth month in the eleventh year of the reign of Xidejia, the city was captured.

When Jerusalem was taken, the leaders of the king of Babylon, including Nichael, Sangal Nebo, Zazekiem, Lazarel, Nichael, Ramoth, and all the other leaders of the king of Babylon, came and sat at the central gate.

When King Zedekiah of Judah and all the soldiers saw them, they fled out of the city by night through the gate between the two cities near the king’s garden and towards Arabah.

The Chaldean army pursued them and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho. They captured him and brought him to Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, in the land of Hamath. Nebuchadnezzar judged him.

The king of Babylon killed his sons and all the nobles of Judah in front of Zedekiah in Riblah,

And he gouged out Zedekiah’s eyes and bound him with copper chains to take him to Babylon.

The Chaldeans burned the palace and the houses of the people with fire, and demolished the walls of Jerusalem.

At that time, Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, captured the remaining people of the city, the refugees who surrendered to him, and the rest of the people to Babylon.

But Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, left the poor who had nothing among the people in the land of Judah, and gave them vineyards and fields at that time.

King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon mentioned Jeremiah and instructed the captain of the guard Nebuzaradan, saying,

Take him, treat him well, and never harm him. Whatever he says to you, do it to him.

Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, and Nebuzhazban, Lazarel, Nechariziel, Ramoth, and all the officials of the king of Babylon,

Send someone to take Jeremiah out of the guard’s courtyard and hand him over to Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, and bring him home. So Jeremiah lived among the people.

When Jeremiah was still imprisoned in the courtyard of the guard, the word of the Lord came to him, saying,

Go and tell Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying, This is what the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, has said: The words that bring disaster but not good will come upon this city, and they will be done before you at that time.

On that day, I will save you, and you will not be handed over to those whom you fear, says the Lord.

I will surely rescue you, and you will not fall by the sword, but you will plunder your own life, because you trust in me. This is what the Lord has said.
