haggai _Chapter 1

On the first day of the sixth month in the second year of King Darius, the word of the Lord was spoken by the prophet Haggai to Zerubbabel, the son of Salatiel, the governor of Judah, and Joshua, the son of Jozadak, the high priest,

The Lord of hosts has said, ‘The time for building the house of the Lord is yet to come.’.

At that time, the word of the Lord came to the prophet Haggai, saying,

This hall is still desolate, do you still live in houses with ceilings?

Now thus says the Lord of hosts, Consider your own ways.

You sow more, but harvest less. You eat, but you cannot be full. Drink, but not enough. Wearing clothes, but not keeping warm. Those who receive wages will pack their wages in a broken bag.

Thus says the Lord of hosts, Consider your own ways.

Go up the mountain to gather wood and build this temple. I am delighted and honored for this. This is what the Lord has said.

You hope for more, but receive less. When you receive it at home, I’ll blow it away. Why is this? Because my temple is desolate, but each of you is concerned about your own house. This is what the Lord of armies has said.

Therefore, for your sake, heaven will not yield dew, and the earth will not produce any harvest.

I have ordered drought to come on the land, mountains, grains, new wine, and oil, as well as the produce of the earth, the people, livestock, and all the labor of human hands.

At that time, Zerubbabel the son of Salatiel, Joshua the son of Jozadak, the high priest, and the remaining people all obeyed the voice of the Lord their God, and the words of the prophet Haggai sent by the Lord their God. The people also have a reverence before the Lord.

Haggai, the angel of the Lord, was sent by the Lord to the people, saying, The Lord says, I am with you.

The Lord stirred up the hearts of Zerubbabel, the son of Salatiel, the governor of Judah, and Joshua, the son of Jozadak, the high priest, and the remaining people. They came to work for the temple of the Lord Almighty their God.

This was on the 24th day of the sixth month in the second year of King Darius.
