Chronicles of the Past Dynasties_Chapter 11
All Israel gathered at Hebron to David and said, “We are your bones and flesh.”.
You were the one who led the Israelites in and out when Saul was king. The Lord your God also promised you, saying, You will feed my people Israel and be the ruler of Israel.
So the elders of Israel came to Hebron to meet King David. David made a covenant with them before the Lord in Hebron, and they anointed David as king over Israel, as the Lord had said through Samuel.
David and all Israel arrived at Jerusalem, which is Jebus. At that time, the Jebusites lived there.
The Jebusites said to David, You must not enter this place. However, David captured the fortress of Zion, which is the city of David.
David said, Whoever attacks the Jebusites first will become a leader and commander. Joab, the son of Zeruiah, went up first and became the commander of the army.
David lives in the fortress, so that fortress is called the City of David.
David built city walls around Milo, and the rest were repaired by Joab.
David grew stronger day by day, because the Lord of hosts was with him.
The following is a record of the leaders of David’s warriors who fought bravely to help him obtain the kingdom and made him king with the Israelites, as the Lord commanded them.
The number of David’s warriors is recorded below: Jashoban, the son of Hagmani, was the commander of the army and killed three hundred people with a spear.
Next was Eleazar, the son of Dodo the Ahite, who was one of the three brave warriors.
He used to be with David in Basdamin, where the Philistines gathered to fight. There was a field full of barley, and all the people fled before the Philistines.
The warrior stood in the field and killed the Philistines, rescuing them. The Lord brought great and complete victory to the Israelites.
Three of the thirty warriors went down to the rock and entered the cave of Adullam to see David. The army of the Philistines camped in the Valley of Rephain.
At that time, David was in the fortress, and the garrison of the Philistines was in Bethlehem.
David longed and said, “I wish someone could bring me water from the well by the gate of Bethlehem to drink.”.
These three warriors broke through the camp of the Philistines, drew water from the well by the gate of Bethlehem, and brought it to David. But he refused to drink, and poured out water before the Lord,
My God, these three people risked their lives to fetch water, which is like their blood, and I dare not drink it. So David refused to drink. This is what three brave warriors did.
Abishai, the brother of Joab, was the leader of these three warriors. He raised his gun and killed three hundred people, earning a name among the three brave warriors.
He is the most esteemed among these three warriors, so he became their leader. Just not as good as the first three warriors.
Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, a warrior of Jiaxue, had done great deeds. He killed the two sons of Ariel the Moab and went down to a pit to kill a lion during the snow,
Killed another Egyptian. The Egyptian was five elbows tall, holding a gun with a shaft as thick as a weaving machine. Benaiah only took a stick and went down, took a spear from the Egyptian’s hand, and stabbed him to death with that spear.
This is what Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, did, and he was named among the three warriors.
He is more noble than the thirty warriors, but not as noble as the first three. David appointed him as the captain of the guard.
